2nd British National Health Qigong Instructor Course 2009
The 2nd Health Qigong instructor course was held in the first week of June after the success of the first Instructor training course in 2009, in which 10 Tai Chi and Qigong enthusiasts were successfully qualified to become Health Qigong Instructors on Yi Jin Jing.
The instructor training course this year offered participants the choice of Wu Qin Xi and Yi Jin Jing Health Qigongs and 23 enthusiasts, young (30 years old) and old (72 years old) attended. These would be Health Qigong instructors, who are experienced Tai Chi Qigong practitioners and teacher, exercise coaches as well as trainers specialised in NHS health and rehabilitation exercises came from Norway and various part of the UK. It was a great step forward in the association's efforts to promoting and popularising of this great system of exercises in the UK and Europe.
The course was conducted by Master Faye & Tary YIp, President and Vice President of BHQA, UK's most experienced Health Qigong Experts with great reputation in the Tai Chi and Qigong community in the UK and Europe.
The aim of the course was to provide participants an in-depth knowledge of the principles, structures, characteristics and inner essence of the exercises and the impact on one's health through practising the exercises. With the deep understanding and knowledge, it would enable instructors to teach with confidence and expertise to help learners achieve maximum benefits.
When the glorious sunshine touched the beautiful lawn of the training venue , our high spirited participants started their first day of intense training. Despite of having learned the Health Qigong sets before, enthusiasts spent the whole day going through the routines, this time in fine details. From how to focus, where to focus to visualisation and meditation, from hand postures and spine alignments, to stretching and squatting, every little step was studied minute detail.
As well as learning the sets from Master Trainers Tary & Faye, participants formed a very close friendship with each other and during self practice time, they worked together either as in a group or in small groups, it really shown the team spirit and everyone contributed their part in helping each other to progress. It was a challenging but fruitful day.

On the second day, everyone got up nice and early after a good night's rest to recover from the exhaustive training the day before. some went to the park nearby to do a bit of morning Tai Chi and revised the things they had learned the day before, some just simple practise their sets and discuss the theories and principles with colleagues on the summery garden.
As soon as the clock struck 10 o'clock, participants were all ready and warmed up for the exciting yet exhausting training ahead of them. the groups spent the whole morning and best part of the afternoon going through the sets, consolidating what they had learned and soaking up all the knowledge passed to them.
After 4 hours of rigorous training it was time for a bit of relaxing and interesting talk given by Masters Tary and Faye Yip. Master Tary gave a detail, informative and interesting introduction to the history, philosophy and culture behind the Health Qigong system.
There were also some very interesting photographs and powerful power point presentation, which showed how Health Qigong as an ancient Chinese life preserving exercise was transformed into a modern, contemporary regime with excellent Physical and Psychological health benefits.
The light hearted, humorous introduction followed by the more technical and traditional lecture of Chinese medicine on energy channels, meridian and pressure points by Master Faye Yip. The channels, meridians and pressure points are the central part of the Health Qigong exercises. As well as building up stamina, flexibility, strength and balance of the muscles and bones, we stimulate, cultivate and nourish the Qi / energy flowing through the pressure points in the channels and meridians in our body. Master Faye's lively, charismatic and enthralling depiction of these deeply methodological topics made it an enjoyable lecture to be had.
The third day was the most intense day when participants getting ready for their form and teaching assessment. the day started with final revision of the sets and clarification of any questions or queries. Then participants went into small groups to work on their sets, drew out their lesson plans as well as
mentally prepared for the nerve-racking assessment.
When the time came participants took turn to perform the form in small groups of the sets they were working on. After the form assessment everyone took turn to conduct teaching practice with their group colleagues under the watchful eyes of Master Faye and Tary.
Finally, came the moment of truth, everyone pass their assessment with great marks and qualified as Health Qigong Instructors recognised by the British health Qigong association. The BHQA has now over 30 instructors and we are still growing with more and more people of different ages taking an interest in practising this great system.
Well Done Guys!!!
